Visiting Medical Students at the Division of Neurosurgery

The University of Toronto Neurosurgery Program consistently attracts the best and brightest medical graduates from across the country.  There are many opportunities available to allow you to experience neurosurgery and make an informed decision about whether this challenging, yet extremely gratifying, field is right for you.

Opportunities in Pre-Clerkship Years

Observerships: Shadowing and observership opportunities are available at any of the four teaching sites and can be arranged by contacting the respective Residency Site Director, as listed below.  Observerships can be arranged for any length of time and allow you to see what life as a neurosurgeon and neurosurgical resident is like.

Opportunities in Clerkship Years

Clinical Electives: Clinical electives in 2 to 4 week blocks are available at all four teaching sites for senior medical students.  The initial request for these should be directed to the Residency Program Coordinator, Ms. Sandi Amaral (sandi.amaral@uhn.ca).
