Biography:

After graduate training in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery in Uof T, and post graduate fellowship with E.J. Wylie in San Francisco, and S.Crawford in Houston, in 1981 Dr. Maggisano returned to SHSC, a U of T affiliated Hospital, where he practiced his learned skills of tertiary vascular practice in Thoraco-abdominal aneurysmal & occlusive surgery, which were not available in Canada prior to his return. He quickly became the regional and Canadian expert in the treatment of both aneurysmal and occlusive Thoraco-abdominal disease, and subsequently redefined the treatment and timing of traumatic aortic tears. He has been instrumental in the training of subsequent generations of vascular surgeons treating the Thoraco-abdominal aorta and traumatic aortic tears. Among his many other interests he enjoys overseeing a cutting edge vascular laboratory, has been extremely successful in raising donor support and money for strategic and academic vascular endeavors, and currently holds the U of T chair in vascular surgery at SHSC. Through the chair he is sponsoring divisional academic pursuits and research fellows. He continues to have a very active and busy vascular practice, and because of his experience and expertise, is often asked to consult and offer opinions on complex vascular cases.
