Jeff Fialkov, MD, MSc, FRCSC, is Head of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery with cross-appointment to the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Toronto. His clinical focus includes the reconstruction of post-traumatic, congenital and post-ablative craniofacial deformities as well as cosmetic facial surgery.
In addition, Dr. Fialkov is an associate scientist in the Holland Bone and Joint Research Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. His research focus is on craniomaxillofacial reconstructive techniques and translational technologies, with an emphasis on biomechanics utilizing in silico modelling. His particular interest in craniofacial trauma, facial reconstruction and craniomaxillofacial biomechanics has led to the publication of numerous peer-reviewed articles and book-chapters on the subject. In addition, his research interests have led to a number of innovations in the field including novel surgical techniques and technological innovations such as a novel patented osteosynthetic system based on a new understanding of the biomechanical environment of the craniomaxillofacial skeleton.
In 2019 Dr. Fialkov launched an initiative to bring ambulatory plastic surgical care to the under-serviced Kivalliq region of Nunavut in order to improve access to specialized surgical care for local predominantly indigenous communities. The clinic, held biannually, is now in its fifth year of operation.
